Cascadia and San Andreas linked-rupture study (Geosphere)

· Geosphere / Oregon State University / ScienceDaily

An Oregon State University team led by marine geologist Chris Goldfinger reported deep-sea sediment core evidence that the Cascadia Subduction Zone and the northern San Andreas fault have ruptured within minutes to hours of each other at least three times in the past 1,500 years, most recently in 1700. Wide spring 2026 coverage framed the finding as a possible simultaneous multi-city disaster scenario from San Francisco to Vancouver.
