Privacy Policy
Updated: October 25th, 2025
The Cascadia Department of Bioregion is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Seattle, Salish Sea. We are committed to protecting your privacy and respecting your rights. We do our best to meet or exceed the legal requirements of each region where we operate, including the United States, Canada, and the European Union under GDPR. We believe in data autonomy, sovereignty, and the right of every person to control their own information.
We believe: Piecemeal regulation can’t establish a baseline of trust and fairness no matter where you live. We support the growing movement toward stronger personal data protections, and advocate for frameworks that include:
The right to know what data is collected and how it’s used
The right to access and review personal data
The right to withdraw consent at any time
The right to data portability, so users aren’t locked into one ecosystem
Algorithmic accountability, so automated decisions can be explained and challenged
The right to own your data outright
Strong protection of personally identifiable information (PII), especially where financial, personal, or demographic data is involved
Strong protection of protected health information (PHI), in line with HIPAA and related standards
General Principles
We collect only the information necessary to provide services, respond to inquiries, and support our community. We never sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with third parties, except as required by law or for essential service functions (e.g., payment processing). You may opt out of communications or request to access, update, or delete your data at any time by contacting community@cascadiabioregion.org.
