Happy PRIDE Month Cascadia!

PRIDE Month is celebrated each year to celebrate, raise awareness and recognize the impact of LGBTQ2I individuals, organizers and culture. It is held each in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, New York - and this year being the 50th anniversary of Stonewall is an especially important year.

The Stonewall riots were a tipping point and the birth for the Gay Liberation and modern Gay Rights Movement in the United States and around the world. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as “Gay Pride Day,” but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the “day” soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposium and concerts, and LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS.

For those who don’t need a PRIDE parade - we celebrate the fact that we haven’t had to face decades of marginalization, criminalization and brutality - and so stand with in solidarity and mutual aid with those who have, and still face forced medical treatment, jailtime or the death penalty in a majority of countries around the world.

PRIDE WITH PURPOSE

Pride With Purpose.jpg

This year our theme is PRIDE WITH PURPOSE. To celebrate and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots we are creating two 20ft murals featuring Sylvia Riviera and Marsha P. Johnson, two iconic trans womxn of color who took a radical stand, and helped spark one of the most iconic civil rights moments of the 1960’s. It features the leaders with molotov cocktail in hand set upon a trans flag and Philadelphia pride flag to show the inclusiveness of the movement. The final version also has a Doug flag in the 0 of purpose to help connect the mural with the Cascadian organizers and artists.

$15 - Limited prints for pride & Mural fundraising project.

To support our activities, we have created 100 limited edition prints of our illustrated broadside. Posters will be full color and roughly 6”x24”. Thank you for supporting your local PRIDE! All money goes to support Pride activities for this year, and any left over will go straight into next years parade fee’s.

In addition, if you support our work, please think about picking up a Pride with Purpose poster with all proceeds going to fund PRIDE activities, or becoming a member to make sure we can keep doing the work that we do.
