The Department of Bioregion is excited to announce a partnership with the Cascadia Association Football Federation to help CAFF hit the field running in 2023. A ton of great organizing has been going on, and they are looking at a new run of kits, and fielding both a women’s and men’s Cascadia team in 2023 for friendlies and CONIFA matches. These will be both local and global, culminating in attending the North American Men’s Cup in Oaxaca in September of 2023, and hosting the World Women’s Cup in 2024.
For those not familiar, the Cascadia Association Football Federation (CAFF) is proud to represent the Cascadia bioregion and North America as a part of the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA). They compete in soccer matches locally and around the world in friendlies and competitions to grow player opportunity, elevate the causes of non-recognized nations and the sport of football itself.
CONIFA is the global football confederation for teams not part of FIFA. Its members include states, partially-recognised states, regions, minority groups and sports-isolated territories. These include areas like Tibet, Catalonia, Kurdistan, nations like Tuvalu and Kirabaldi who will be some of the first countries to go entirely under water due to climate change, or diaspora teams like Darfur or Northern Sudan. CONIFA is strictly politically neutral, and is run by volunteers.CONIFA aims to build bridges between people, nations, minorities and isolated regions all over the world through friendship, culture and the joy of playing football. CONIFA works for the development of affiliated members and is committed to fair play and the eradication of racism.
