Break the System: 2025 Georgetown Steam Plant Science Fair

This fall, the Cascadia Department of Bioregion will proudly join innovators, artists, youth, engineers, and makers at the second annual Georgetown Steam Plant Science Fair, a celebration of SHTEAM (Science, History, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and a rallying cry for system-wide transformation.

This year’s theme—Break the System: Every Act of Destruction is an Act of Creation”—asks us to confront the failing systems of the past and reimagine what comes next. It invites every participant to become an architect of the future. We have it in our power to redesign everything.

Why We’re Showing Up

The Cascadia Department of Bioregion will be tabling all weekend to share flags, maps, zines, stickers, and more to support building a strong identrity for a bioregionally-rooted future. We'll invite visitors to explore:

  • What is a bioregion, and why is it a vital scale for system change?

  • How can we regenerate Cascadia from the watershed up?

  • How do we reclaim the power of imagination, collaboration, and local governance?

We believe the bioregional movement is one of the most powerful ways to ground utopian ideals in place-based, practical transformation. This Science Fair offers a chance to share that vision—and to meet fellow tinkerers, builders, and dreamers who are asking the same questions.

Come visit our table, meet other system-breakers, and bring your curiosity, creativity, and questions. Whether you're a kid with a cardboard solar car, an elder with a vision, or a maker with a mind-blowing invention—we want to meet you.

About the Fair

The Georgetown Steam Plant Science Fair is a weekend of interactive exhibits, mad science, and wild imagination. This year expands into more categories—music, climate tech, circular fashion, art, youth innovation, ecological design, and more.
